    In this class, you’ll use special barbed felting needles to shape and sculpt fluffy wool into holiday ornaments in your choice of style and colors.
    Use a suggested design from the provided stencils or make your own design. Embrace the natural charm of a pure wool ornament, or add some holiday bling with sparkle fibers.

    No experience necessary – the class is suitable for beginners or experienced needle
    felters. All supplies will be provided, including enough wool to make several ornaments and a basic needle felting kit to take home.

    Note: felting needles are very sharp and should be handled with care.

    Class is best suited to ages 13 and over.
    Ages 10 to 12: ok with accompanying adult.

  • Learn to Dye Cotton

    Learn to dye cotton yarn or fabric with Yvonne Ellsworth. We will be using a tie-dye kit to blend colors to make fantastic yarn or fabric. She will cover 2-3 different dyeing techniques, including tie-dye, variegated stripes, tonal building of color, and speckles.

    Please note: Dye may get on skin or clothes, so wear clothing that is safe to get dye on. Gloves will be provided, but dye might still get on hands, which washes off after about a day. 

    Included with the class are your choice of either

    • 2 skeins of 8/4 fingering weight cotton yarn, OR
    • 2 skeins of Cozy Cotton, OR
    • 2 x 1 yard of Kona PFD Cotton

    Yvonne will also have additional yarn and fabric available for purchase. If you are interested in dyeing a large quantity of yarn or fabric during class, please make sure to contact us to make sure enough supplies are on hand. You are welcome to bring your own cotton yarn or fabric to dye.

  • Wet-Felted Sunflower Workshop

    In this introductory wet-felting class, we will make sunflowers using wool fibers, water, and soap. Wool fibers are laid out in thin layers, then wet through with water and soap. Rubbing, rolling, and agitation causes the fibers to tangle together and shrink to make colorful handmade felt, which we then cut and shape into a flower.

    All supplies and materials included with with registration.  Lots of water is involved, so dress appropriately!

  • Tablet Weaving – Threaded-in Design

    Weaving with just threads and a deck of cards? Is it possible? Yes! This ingenious technique has been around  since the Iron Age, yet produces beautiful contemporary bands that can be used as belts,  jewelry, bookmarks, trim, etc. The “Threaded-in Design ” technique is taught in this beginner’s class, but once you learn to weave with cards, there are lots of other, more challenging, techniques you will want to advance to; Card Weaving is practically inexhaustible! No previous weaving experience is necessary for this class . All materials will be provided, and at the end of class, the cards go home with you for many hours of continued weaving fun.

    Materials provided: includes use of tabletop warp support, use of shuttles and beaters, all warp and weft thread, handout

    Students should bring: one 2 liter bottle full of water to be used as weight.  Please bring a lunch and beverage to sustain you through this all-day workshop!

    We must meet a minimum enrollment of 4 students for this workshop to move forward.  If we are unable to meet the minimum you will receive a full refund.

    Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom is fast and easy. Quickly weave scarves, washcloths, or placemats. Use it to sample yarn combinations faster than your table or floor loom. We will cover direct warping onto the loom, warp stripes, weft stripes and other tips and tricks along the way.

    We have looms available, so you can try before you buy. If you choose not to purchase the loom, but wish to continue weaving, simply leave it here and join us for Fiber Circles to work on your project.

    Students will need to bring (or purchase on-site):

  • Wool Breeds, Fleece Selection and Scouring

    This is the first class is a two-part series on selecting and processing fleece and fibers, which can be taken as a stand-alone workshop or as a lead-in to the second workshop, Wool Prep Tools and Techniques.

    In this workshop we will look at raw fleeces, learn about different categories of wool breeds, and talk about why we might be interested in yarn from different kinds of wool. We will talk about selecting fleeces for hand processing, how to skirt and prep your fleece for scouring and further hand-processing, and what you might want to think about if you have fleeces you’d like to send to the mill. As we’re discussing raw wool we’ll be hands-on walking through the process of home-scouring wool, as clean wool is key for the steps that will come next. If you have raw fleeces that you would like to have Anna look at, you are invited to bring them along. 

    Fleece disclaimer: Attendees are welcome to bring one of their own raw fleeces for Anna to briefly evaluate. Please have them securely contained, preferably in a clear plastic bag. Be aware that we will 'quarantine' attendees' fleeces outdoors, and will look at them outside or in the barn.

  • Wool Prep Tools & Techniques

    This is the second class in a two-part series on selecting and processing fleece and fibers, which can be taken as a stand-alone workshop or as a follow-up to the to the first workshop on September 13, Wool Breeds, Fleece Selection and Scouring.

    In this workshop we will be building on the next steps: what is the bridge from clean fleece to ready-to-spin? Students should be able to spin a consistent single on a drop-spindle or wheel (and bring their favorite spinning tool to class). Anna will bring a large array of different wool-prep tools, and will describe and explain their care and use. From simple tools that can be found around your house, to specialized carding and combing options, students will have a chance to learn the basics and try their hand at them in this “tasting” of fiber prep options.
